Essay Crow Pose
Curtis G Aikens Sr.
Guiding my student across the mental threshold of when presented with a challenging pose such as
crow. Before we move into crow pose I will attempt, to demo it for you Class. I say attempt because
someday my crow flies away or just will not land on my Matt! Lol

Which bring me to the Philosophy I want to share form one of my favorite yoga teacher Shauna Barnard
California. Shauna is a former member of University California Berkeley swim team and she does not
have the typical yoga body, if there such a thing. Because everybody has a yoga body. Shauna would say
and I quote “just because I can’t do a handstand does that mean I can’t do yoga”

Class yoga is a practice, we come together as community to support and be supported. This is your
practice, if you don’t feel like doing crow pose Cool! If it serves you and your practice by working only on
arm position, Great! If you are up to try let’s start,

work your way up if you find you cannot complete this pose today! All is good please remember some
days many days I cannot do the crow at all myself!

Now here is a tip I got from a teacher in Atlanta well two tips from two different teachers first from Tara

Because of my height I was having difficulty getting my knees on my arms. Tara suggested I start on
blocks it would raise my lower body high enough to just move onto the tops of my elbows or forearms it
worked.
Next Taylor notice that my feet were kind of duck feet in other words pointing in opposite direction
she’s she suggested I bring my toes more in line almost pigeon toed which allowed me to move onto my
forearms much easier. now many days I’m able to bring the crow in for landing!

Let’s start from down dog inhale, exhale standing forward fold inhale plant your hands under

your shoulder Exhale crow pose, will take a few minutes practicing landing your crow.

remember if you would like to try with some props such blocks just wave your hand and I’ll

bring them over to you
