Our 1st Guest Blogger Katherine Kobito, 26 a college Student, Deans List!

My name is Katherine Kobito, but my friends and family all me Kat/Kathy. I’m twenty-six years old and consider myself a writer. Thanks to my wonderful upbringing, and traveling around the world as a child, I’ve been exposed to a lot of culture. It has instilled in me the values of discipline, self-confidence, and determination.

Ever since I was young, I’ve always loved reading, and history. There is something about getting lost in a story, and going on an adventure, that has always calmed me. My favorite novels to read are historical fiction and drama. My favorite authors are J.K. Rowling and Philippa Gregory. I am a member of the Georgia Writers Association, Georgia Highlands College (GHC) Creative Writing Club, International Association of Professional Writers & Editors, and attending the Georgia Highlands College Creative Writing Conference, which I attended in March of this year, and will continue to thereafter. Once I graduate from Georgia Highlands with my Associate’s in History, at the end of Summer 2019, it is my plan to transfer to Kennesaw State University, where I’ll receive my Bachelor’s in History with a Minor in Creative Writing. It is my dream to become a successful, published author as well as work in a museum as a curator/conservator. It is my full dream, of course, to work at a museum centered around preserving books.

I first met Mr. Curtis Aikens Sr. while using Uber, as I do not have a vehicle. We had a lovely conversation about writing, school, and dreams. He had told me that his son was also in school, at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, who has now graduated, which I thought was terrific. We had met on March 7 of this year, and I’ve made sure to keep in touch over the past few months. As a full-time student, and part-time employee at a Law Office, it has been a challenge and a privilege to learn how to balance education, work, and personal relationships. My supportive boyfriend, friends, family, and workplace have made it an excellent transition for me to follow my dreams. Last night, Mr. Curtis was kind enough to offer me the opportunity to be a guest blogger, and I’m pleased to say I accepted. It’s just amazing how everything has come into fruition, with being successful at school with being on the Dean’s List, and now this great opportunity. I feel very blessed. As one of my favorite authors says in Harry Potter, “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light.”

Also from our Guest Blogger;
“Another thing I’d like to tell you is the professors at GHC are truly incredible. I have received so much support and terrific advice about pursuing my writing career. It’s just really neat how they take such interest in students that present themselves professionally and diligently, as I did. I’ve had many great conversations and unforgettable morale boosters with the positivity and honesty they provided. Many have really inspired me to even put my name out there and try. It’s been really refreshing. :)”

I want share one of Katherine’s Poems from her High School years.

Love
Dawn by day,
Dark by night.
Birds in the sky,
A beautiful sight.

Love in the air,
Hatred far away.
I think about you,
Every single day.

I want us to be together,
Until the end of time.
‘Till death do us part,
Your heart is mine.
