Tirumalai Krishnamacharya
Many yoga teachers students as well as scholars refer to him as Father of modern yoga. The more I learn of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, the more I want to know. I look at the Photograph and feel something, warm, safe and steady. I can only Pray, study, and work on self, as well as my practice to become a teacher with just a little of the impact this human had on his students and the world. I have been told one cannot change the world, I don’t Believe that. I look at the impact of humans such as Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Jimmy Carter and Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. Having studied the previous 4, now learning of and about Tirumalai Krishnamacharya thought Yoga Teacher training I look at myself in the mirror and know I too can and will make a difference, a positive difference.
The world may have thought he the father of modern yoga, however it is homeland Madras India, he was known as a healer and teacher. Healer, Teacher, Teacher, Healer I think about the more we learn the better health we achieve. Which is most important The Teacher or The Healer or are they Balanced the Yin and Yang?
Tirumalai Krishnamacharya teaching Philosophy teacher what is appropriate for the student. That is huge, every human body is different there for each pose will be different, each mindset will be different, so as a teacher I need to understand that. As a teacher, be willing to work with what my students bring to class.
Tirumalai Krishnamacharya was a powerful speaker haven’t traveled throughout India give me demonstrations and lectures spreading the beauty and benefits of yoga. His lectures would include demonstrations where he would stop his heartbeat. Wow, would have been something to be in attendance at one of his lectures.
The vinyasa flow the mainstay of our practice he is the person to put that together, thank you. The idea of combining movement with breath moving meditation just incredible.
Tirumalai Krishnamacharya lived to the age of 100, he is Considered the father of modern yoga, if I may take Liberty and say his children as far as Yoga children are a Who’s, Who including Indra Devi Author of Yoga for America, K.Pattabhi Jois Sanskrit scholar and developed Ashtanga Yoga, and B.K.S Iyengar his brother in Law, who pays homage to Tirumalai Krishnamacharya for pushing him to study Yoga when he was young. B.K.S. Iyengar is the founder of Iyengar Yoga.
In closing if Tirumalai Krishnamacharya is the father of modern yoga, he is a very proud Parent because his children took his vision and brought it to the world. And as a person on that learning tree I hope to do him proud
